Quadrature

Quadrature oscillations are said to be in quadrature if they are separated in phase by 90° (π/2, or λ/4).  Quadrature encoders are generally used to measure angular position, often of something like a rotating shaft. A quadrature encoder has a specified resolution, like any other encoder, that indicates how many pulses determine a full revolution of the rotation shaft. This value is specified in pulses/revolution.
