Router Spindle Build

Motor Choice

What motor are you choosing to run this spindle? Are you using a VFD to control the speed? Also would you be willing to upload any of the CAD files you used for this spindle build? I am also curious about lubrication. Is there any kind of maintenance that needs to be performed on a spindle build like this? I think there would be a real market for this kind of device as I have never really seen a compact build like this. Would be very interested to see how it holds up in a real work setting. This is especially interesting to me since you are developing a collet based spindle that can potentially do dual duty (router and mill). That is truly a unique product from my point of view. Great work.

Hi splinter very good questions, The motor for this spindle is 1kw, I have not seen the motor, as I built this spindle for a friend
he does have a variable speed drive for the motor

I plan to build more similar spindles some with ATC, the smaller one’s may not have ATC built in

My next build will have a built in motor as well, that I’m working on for the next stage, they will be run by a VFD for speed
control, once I have the motor spindle set up & working well together, then I will do the ATC to go with the complete package
Some very basic cad files will be put up, but right now I’m very busy, so may take some time to get the cad files up

    Thanks for you comments
