    Design Summary:

This is a pretty inexpensive 4th Axis option. To be honest it falls
in the category of experimental hobby rather than any serious
work, but if you want to play around with 4 axis to see if it has
capabilities for what you are looking for, this might be an
    inexpensive way to go!

    Design Contact:

Very cheap DIY 4th Axis and Tailstock. If you already have a CNC machine this is a really simple way to make a tailstock for a 4th axis setup. Was a fun project, but honestly the tolerances were not great! Could easily be modified for a more industrial setup.

    Design Summary:

Open Rail is a new Open Source Universal Linear Rail System designed to be used in conjunction with various sizes of
    readily available T-Slot aluminum extrusions.
The Open Rail system will be made of 6061-T5 Aluminum with Black Hard Coat Anodized, Type III, which means we will have
the ability to use both metal v wheels for heavy duty applications and plastic v wheels for quiet light duty applications. This,
along with Open Rail’s unique ability to adapt to many different aluminum extrusions configurations makes it the most
versatile linear rail system available today. This version of Open Rail is compatible with all Misumi’s 5 series extrusions.
Future plans include expanding the Open Rail line to include more of the Misumi’s larger series as well as other popular T-
Slot extrusions such as 80/20. The linear V guides have been around for a long time. The problem in the past has been
mounting them to existing extrusions. This can be difficult and unconventional. Open Rail was designed to make installation
a breeze (easily installs with included screws and t-nuts) and completely customizable unique to each machine.

Hi Im joe, im a designer working in calgary designing packaging, I just moved here from the UK where for the last 5 years since university i have been designing and machining custom flight cases and protective foam inserts.
back in england i was in the right place at the right time when a friend who was working at a school was throwing out an ELU 860 to make space for their new laser cutter,
The story Goes that only one person was ever trained on the machine and after he left the school, it has sat unused in the school for quite a few years
From what i can see this machine has had minimal usage,
Im rebuilding an elu 860 for my personnel hobby use, and hopefully make a little cash!!
My plan is to strip out all existing electronics and motors and spindle and replace them with new equivalents……………..this is my progress so far,
If anyone has any questions ill try my best to answer them, ive worked on CNC routers for the past 5 years but ive never tried to build one, so any advice anyone can offer me would be greatly appreciated.

A dust collection foot with pneumatic z height adjustment relative to Y axis.

After way too long of ignoring this issue, I am finally breaking down and deciding to do this the right way. I am going to make one dust shoe to rule them all! Since I have a bunch of pneumatic parts lying around from a surplus machine, I am going to try and incorporate them into this dust shoe to make for quick tool changes and fast z adjustments.

    Design Summary:

The ins and outs of my experience with this machine. The most unique feature of this machine is the adjustable table height as a Z axis. This works very well for varying thicknesses of material as well as for a 4th axis configuration.

This is a writeup of a design with an adjustable Z table. The major advantage of a design like this is that the table itself moves much like a Bridgeport knee mill to accommodate varying thicknesses of material and even a 4th axis.

This is a build in progress. I have no clear idea of what it will turn into. Your input is welcome....just be nice.

This is a design that I started a while back that got sidelined. I had a bunch of 1″ x 16 ga. square tubing in my shop and decided to do something creative with it. It was one of those times that I started building without a plan. So far it’s working quite well. Some have said it won’t nearly be strong or sturdy enough to be useful (the best motivation).
I will upload some pictures though it is far from complete. I will also try to finish my drawing of the project….just bear with me for a bit.

This group will discuss building an entry level, low cost (under $200) CNC machine with basic tools and supplies. I have cut many parts with it, including materials like plastic, wood, acrylic, foam. It is the easiest way to get into the hobby without spending a lot of money.

    Design Summary:

This group will work with cable management as it applies to CNC machines. You can find manufactured cable carriers available from many sources, and there are some drawings available that are basically a copy of those, but how many have designed and or made a carrier link that is completely different? We will start with my design for ABS carrier links and see how it goes.

    Design Contact:

    Metalworkz

    wes.spence@comcast.net

This group will attempt to address the problem of cable management as it applies to CNC machines. If you have the cash $$, you can find manufactured cable carriers available from many sources. When building a DIY CNC machine most of us do not have the extra cash to spend on such things and need to save every penny for the things we can’t make like the motors and electronics to drive them. It is this mindset that drove me to design my own cable carrier to go with my first CNC build, and I will attempt to document the thought process along with the changing design ideas I went through to get to my final design.

put too much strength on the router.
